Today, the i2Coalition and Computer and Communications Industry Association (CCIA) sent a letter to Robert Lighthizer congratulating him on being confirmed to serve U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) in an 82-14 confirmation vote.
i2Coalition Chairman David Snead said the following: “The ability of our members to sell their products globally is of critical importance to us. The U.S. has traditionally taken the lead in negotiating trade agreements which ensure that the Internet remains open for business. However, some countries seek to carve outs in trade agreements that would allow them to force companies to locate infrastructure in their countries, and impose arbitrary restrictions on the types of content sent across the Internet. These carve-outs threaten to hobble our industry.”
Snead continued, “We look forward to working with Ambassador Lightizer to ensure that the U.S. remains a world leader in the digital economy.”
